Our Catch

Your groups can expect to participate in the bait and switch practices of catching bill fish. In the prime season expect to see 20  to sometimes 50 sails raised, and at least 15 to 20 sail fish released on an average day. The Pacific indo Sail Fish is known to weigh from 90 lbs to 130 lbs depending on time of year. The pacific sailfish are very aggressive when hitting the baits, and they are a great aero flying fight. Make sure to have the camera ready! No one fish is the same and each one makes for a great show while reeling in.

With the Blue Bayou Fleet double and triple hook ups are also common with sail fish in Guatemala, and no day is slow when Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish) are on the hunt. Big Mahi Mahi, 25 – 35 lbs are plentiful in the Pacific Ocean of Guatemala. This makes for an exciting turn of events. Fishing is outstanding all year round! 8 months of the year we have the best sail fish bite in the world based on releases. Ask us what is biting and we will tell you due to the fact that Marlin begin to take over for the remaining months offsetting the sails.

Marlin bite all year round as well as Sails in Guatemala, but we do have scheduled concentrations.   Usually while the seasonal rains come in, you can expect greater Marlin numbers as the water cools to the low 82 degree range. In Guatemala the Blue and Black Marlin can range inbetween 300 to 700 pound, with 300 lbers be the most common. Great for the fly! But make sure to pile on the backing for their incredible runs. In the past couple of seasons there has even been a reported grander or two that shakes things up from time to time. In recent years it has not been uncommon for the best captains to raise 4 or more marlin in a single day to two day stretch. Marlin can be caught year round in Guatemala but the largest concentrations seem to occur in late spring through December. This time is also great for Dorado, Yellow Fin Tuna, and Atlantic Tarpon.
