"Our team knows the importance of having an unforgettable trip, while achieving your fishing expectations & staying within your budget" Company Mission Statement
The Blue Bayou Sport Fishing team started out with the desire to provide a service of first-class fishing and accommodation's, for a fraction of the cost. We are inviting those who never could have thought about fishing the ''sail fishing capital of the world'', to join us with a desired budget in mind. Our charters limit our expenses by personally providing most of the services and using fuel efficient boats (smaller diesels and 4 strokes), that is our fleet. We do everything from transportation pick up with our in house vans, to the fishing charters that consist of our fleet, and finally personally providing incredible meals and bar service with our staff. We also use our own private lodging in a near by beach house to contribute to your savings and comfort vs renting other lodge space or hotel rooms. That is the difference between us and our competitors, being involved in your entire trip from start to finish.
Our focus groups vary. From our avid experienced salt water fishermen, to regions in the US and world wide without salt water Sport Fishing. Like for all of those northern fly guys itching to get a sail hooked up. This team is bound to provide one of the greatest trips of your lifetime that is affordable for an annual angler. That is our goal. To open niche markets where there are many willing fishermen capable of joining us, yet 45' yachts and all inclusive highend resorts drive up the cost and are never the affordable option. Look no further.
Our team can provide different fishing itineraries every day upon request, if you wish to pursue fishing with different local species please ask us how you want to switch it up. This is something very few charters provide, much less have the experience to provide such options. While the main attraction is sailfish or even sailfish on the fly, some anglers prefer pursuing Rooster Fish or other coastal species. Not to mention light tackle with an IGFA captain is also a great challenge! Lastly, the atlantic tarpon fishing is untouched and offers more fishing adventures to add to your trip.
The team consists of an experienced crew all equipped with university degrees from the US and lots of hours on the pacific of Guatemala (2 Central Michigan Grads, 2 Michigan State Grads, and 1 Engineer from Texas University). We are all well rounded with the knowledge of general business practices, ethics, as well as conservation awareness in our fishing industry which we practice (catch and release). Our Captains are 4 local Guatemalans with more than 10 years experience bill fishing, and 1 American Captain over seeing the operation who is certified as a master 100 ton Captain. All members of our fishing crew have an impressive resume to offer with many catches under their belt in many parts of the world. By using our sport fishing services you will not only be extremely satisfied with the fishing and total cost, you will also get to see Guatemala behind the scenes, and enjoy your vacation the way it should be.

Captain Christopher Starrs is 50 ton master USCG Captain and an IGFA certified Capt for those seeking world records. Chris is also the founder, manager, marketing guru, captain, chauffeur at moments, and sometimes chef and bar tender (if he feels like it!) for the Blue Bayou Sport Fishing Team & Lodge. Ask him to make you a cuba libre, and you won't regret it! He came all the way down from Michigan 6 years prior and he has quickly adapted his big lake and river style of fishing to this incredible bill fish bite here in Guatemala. He has a back ground in fly fishing all over Michigan, a master angler award winner for large mouth bass, and he has caught many steel head, as well as all varieties of salmon on lake Michigan. Chris is now a Captain for most of the blue bayou fleet in Iztapa Guatemala where he now lives with his wife Patricia. He is a very hands on Captain, and knows his way around a fly rod and reel for those wanting to catch a sail fish on a fly. If you are a fellow Mid-West angler, he will help you adapt to the exciting fishing in Guatemala. Free Spool!!!

Edwin,
Age 19 now he has been fishing since he was about 14 on sport fishing boats here in Guatemala. One of our favorite mates, and in general just talented. He excels in conventional style bill fishing and great at rigging marlin baits.
Marvin,
Another great mate as are all of them that we use. Tons of experience with marlin rigs in particular. He can rig up a mack with the best of them. He is our tournament mate usually, and just a great guy to be around. Completely fluent in English!
Yoel aka ''Hurcules''
Yoel or as he is known in Guatemala ''Hercules'', is Blue Bayou's newest mate. In Guatemala one crews loss is another crews gain. In this case we lucked out. Joel used to be a Captain for one of the hottest boats in Guatemala ''strike zone''. He has been the top captain in ever tournament for the last three years. Now we got him as our first mate with Blue Bayou, and we are raising more fish than ever. Joel is just 23 year old but he is one of the best teasing mates I have ever worked with. He usually likes 2 teasers to himself, while the captain works the out rigger teasers. So for the first time in a while we have 4 teasers out! When sails enter the spread, he is all over the place working the spread and making sure we are getting multiple hook ups. Fun guy to fish with and very serious about release numbers.
John Starrs- Father of Capt Chris Starrs is our US contact for the majority of our North American Clients in the process of booking their fishing reservation. He will walk you through the booking process by providing all the needed information and facts to make their reservation is flawless. John is also our supplier for our Cam Sigler flies used for bill fish on the fly here in Guatemala. He ties these flies in Michigan and he will have them at your home within weeks of your trip, this way you have time to practice. He comes to Guatemala often, enjoys the retired life in MI after 34 long years at General Motors, and spends lots of time with the 7 grand kids.
Patricia Gonzalez de Starrs- Wife of Capt Christopher Starrs is an MSU Grad from Guatemala originally. She is the brains of the operation and specializes in the financial coordination of our clients packages, as well as general itinerary of our groups. This equates to major savings as an end result. Patti is in the process of receiving her sommelier certification for wine. This passion has been something she passes along to each and every one of our groups. Patti will usually plan each meal for our guests with a south american wine to compliment each meal. Depending on what fish we are having she can usually pair the best bottle possible for your money and palate. Make sure to check out her Blog and latest facebook posting under ''our wining and dining'' section of the web page.
